September 7th marks the date for Marian Clinic’s Ultimate Concert,
this year a special 20th anniversary celebration.
A performance by the Fountain City Brass Band, reigning North American
and U.S. Open Brass Band Champions, will be on stage at White Concert
Hall free and open to the public.
The Fountain City Brass Band, founded in 2002 by Lee Harrelson, is
a volunteer musical ensemble based in the greater Kansas City area.
Performing a wide variety of music including opera, jazz, Broadway
and Hollywood, the FCBB offers casual, audience friendly concerts under
the baton of Music Director Dr. Joseph Parisi.
The major sponsors for the concert will be Lockton
Companies, LLC; Parrish Hotel Corporation and the Sisters
of Charity of Leavenworth Health System. A free will offering collected during the concert will
help support “healthier lives for the uninsured.”
Master of ceremonies will be Dr. Herschel Stroud, longtime Clinic
supporter and himself a popular Topeka performer, who appeared with
his wife Jacqueline when they launched the Clinic’s Arts and
Medicine Lecture Series in 2002.
Fountain City Brass Band is modeled on the British-style brass band
with 25 brass players and 4 percussionists. FCBB members will present
a sweeping repertoire—from familiar folksongs, show tunes and
marches to classical masterpieces and original compositions by today’s
leading composers. Exciting!
